Yoga has phenomenal capacity to heal, to empower ourselves, engage our bodies and remember our connection to the world. It walks us through the process of letting go of whatever holds us back and ignites our imagination and potential. With the tools yoga offers us we clarify the mind through prana, detoxify the body through movement and have more energy to fulfil our calling in the world with a joyful creative spirit.
My intention is rooted in engaging with people of all shapes, sizes and abilities and making yoga accessible. Yoga is for every body with every body type and is a pathway for growth and expansion in ourselves, so we can be empowered, confident in our skin whatever our shape, and fully present in our lives. There are so many wonderful techniques that help us carve our own way forward. I love working with people individually, in partners and groups to create a programme that suits your motivations and aspirations for your practice and helps you develop that and wholeheartedly embody it.
Yoga is my life and Acroyoga is my passion. I take a multidisciplinary approach and am trained in Hatha (YA), Vinyasa flow (YA) , Unity Partner Yoga (IYN), Sun Moon Partner and Community Yoga (YA), Acroyoga (AYI), Thai Yoga Massage (AYI), Yoga Nidra, Meditation, Positive Visualisation, Hypnosis (ANLP) and NLP (ANLP) as a Practitioner. I completed my first teacher training qualification in 2010 and have been continuing my training regularly ever since. In 2016 I am focussing on deepening my personal practice and over the last few years I have been lucky enough to be invited to teach all over the world from Sweden to Spain to Olso to my home town of Brighton. My clients are from a wide range of backgrounds and I am always honoured to be let in and trusted. My clients include corporate team bonding sessions and regular yoga classes for NHS Staff, the management team at Higgidy pies, Unilever, and Google, as well as individuals who I coach in mindfulness and yoga techniques to manage stress and anxiety at work, in home and family life to get out of the mind and into the body, tackling specific conditions such as COPD and Crohn's disease to help manage pain, in recovery from alcohol and drug addictions as part of rebuilding their lives, and to improve body confidence and capability, as well as couples who are wanting to connect more deeply together with a fun playful spirit. I do a community project with young people currently homeless as a way of bringing peace to the mind in chaotic circumstances. But really what you gain from yoga is down to you and how much focus you give to it. The question is, are you ready to get naked, let go the fear and step into being yourself?
Nine Lives Yoga has an ethos...live every breath. Which means to live with joy, presence and a creative heart. Nine Lives Yoga is about inclusion, expansion and evolution in ourselves and together and being fearless about it. Nine Lives Yoga is about bringing the joys of the yoga practice to groups, couples and individuals regardless of background, orientation, age or ability. It is yoga for every body with every body type.
Nine Lives Yoga creates opportunities to engage with yourself, with your friends through collaborative practice of partner yoga, humandala and Acroyoga as well as conscious events like NLY Yoga Raves, workshops and retreats as well as personal hatha and vinyasa yoga programs. These are inclusive to people of all shapes and sizes, guys, gals, the LGBTQ community, all ages and abilities. My style is creative, joyful and supportive and each session I take time to check in with students and be adaptive to the group. Classes are bespoke to the people in the room, and we will work to your motivations and aspirations and as we get to know eachother over time. I aim to help you let go of any stuff that holds you back, and unleash the most powerful, joyful version of yourself who comes from a peaceful loving space inside and is open to being truly alive in the world.
The life I lead now is entirely different to 2002 when I discovered it. I struggled with anxiety and depression without ever realising it and escaped through being a complete workaholic - working hard and then playing harder numbing myself with recreational escapism. On the outside my life was great, but on the inside I was tearing myself apart. I'd always thought yoga was 'too lame' for me and preferred kick boxing and stuff that got my blood pumping and made me sweat. Ha! Little did I know how much yoga was going to kick my ass! I struggled with processing my frustrations and anger about family issues as a teenager and bottled it all up inside and turned on myself, and covered it up with bravado as best I could hoping no-one would find out what lay underneath. I I was petrified to be vulnerable and open about my low self esteem and so didn't let anyone close to me and busied myself relentlessly so that no-one noticed and just thought I had lots going on all the time. Hurrying to get past today into tomorrow. Yoga has slowly and surely unravelled all that and allowed me to sit, and trust in the infinite potential that each of us have inside us.
I still remember my first yoga class, I stumbled upon it when a good friend went along- the teacher did Sivananda style and led a wonderful visualisation and I came out floating on air. I never realised it was possible to get that high naturally! And since then my life has been transformed by it. When I set up Nine Lives Yoga I wanted to offer no bullshit yoga with none of that hippy stuff, just straight talking yoga. And the more I practice, the deeper I transform. The subtler parts of the practice take effect, stripping back the bullshit and revealing more depth to show me there is more to this hippy stuff than meets the eye. And the transformation is always, ironically, moving me more towards being the person I have always been but with less and less fear. And that's what I want for people I work with, to live wholly and fearlessly, feeling open, switched on and present in the world.
I am a bit of a workshop junkie and am continually inspired by studying with some of the greatest teachers around today. Inspirations include David Sye (founder of Yogabeats), Daniel Scott (Acroyoga level II teacher and yoga provocateur) and Acobhakti (Acroyoga level II teachers and acrobats), Jaqui Wan (UK’s first Acroyoga Teacher and hardcore Vinyasa teacher), Erica Montes , Sevanti (Unity Partner Yoga creator), Marek Gabor (Thai Yoga Massage Teacher) as well as my friends and fellow teachers in Brighton. I continue to learn from my students and teachers every day and am grateful for a loving and supportive community.

My partner and I have been doing yoga for several years and started partner yoga with Cat to add an additional dimension to our practice. I am significantly bigger and heavier than my partner who is more flexible than me and so we were a little apprehensive about doing partner yoga with each other. But Cat is a great teacher and the atmosphere in the classes is friendly and supportive. She knows exactly how to make adjustments to enhance postures and allow us both to simultaneously explore our strengths, weaknesses and without going beyond our limits. Cat teaches that yoga is not only about developing physical strength and flexibility but also about relaxing and enjoying yourself. The work goes deep and we feel the benefits in the days following the class. We leave each session feeling lighter, relaxed and yet at the same time as if we’ve done a serious work out.
